Leaving on a Jet Plane

So after the email I received early Tuesday morning, things got moving pretty quickly. Our social worker called me and told me to try to book a flight arriving in Vietnam on Monday, December 15 and returning Wednesday, December 31. She asked, “Can you do that?” I said, “I guess so.” (How could I say no?) Then I called Scott and prepped him by saying, “Trudy called and we are going to do everything she said.” Scott said, “Ok.” I gave him the details, and he went to work.

By the end of school Tuesday, we had a flight on hold through a travel agent leaving Friday, December 13 and returning Wednesday, December 31. We had another flight on hold leaving Saturday, December 14 and returning Thursday, January 1 using my parents AA miles. Scott relayed the information to Trudy, and then she told us to wait to book our flight until she confirmed all the details with the Vietnamese facilitator. When I got home from work, I could barely think. Everything was swirling in my head and Scott’s too. Don’t get me wrong we want to go to Vietnam, but we were prepared to wait two weeks before traveling not 3-4 days. It seems that we haven’t followed the suggested timeline at any point. 🙂

So, today we got an email from Trudy saying everything had been confirmed and it was go. Scott booked our flight using my parents AA miles, and we will leave Saturday, December 13. Trudy added that we may be returning December 23 or 24 depending on how quickly our paperwork gets done which could make our trip a little more than ten days instead almost twenty-one.

Our heads are still spinning, but we just keep moving through the checklists. We have a checklist for our paperwork, for Elise, and for ourselves. We had a conference call today to go over all the details again, and I’m still in disbelief that this is really happening. We will be in Vietnam on Monday and meeting Elise Wednesday, December 17 or Thursday, December 18. Unbelievable! We will try to update as often as we can.

PS – The t-shirts are in, so watch for them in the mail!

  1. Praise God! I love how you told Scott you’re going to do exactly what she said. Great prep for the short notice. Looking forward to seeing your first family picture.
